Breaking the Script - Season 3
Season 3 of Breaking Precedent is here.
This season, Leah sits down with founders, athletes, and builders who refused to accept the world as it was handed to them. From a card game that turns into hard business questions, to rewriting the script for life after sports, to reimagining what healthcare could look like if someone actually believed in you β these are conversations about challenging inherited beliefs, collecting skills, and taking your future into your own hands.
Welcome to Season 3.

[00:00:00] All right, Anne, are you ready to play a little card game with me? I am. I am ready. Let's go. Okay. I am ready, baby. Are we ready? I'm gonna move my finger across the card deck. You tell me when to stop. Stop. What's one [00:00:10] belief you inherited that you never truly believed? I think that's kinda antithetical to our family. Like- Yeah, it sounds like it from your [00:00:20] story. Oh. If you're just doing the same things, how can you ever expect to have a different outcome? Erin, welcome to [00:00:30] Breaking Precedent. I'm excited to have you here. Thank you, Riley. It's so good to be here with you today. I knew I was right. I knew I was gonna make it happen. I wasn't gonna let it fail. Was there ever a moment [00:00:40] of doubt whether the fight was worth the cost?
I had lost my essence, so I thought, "Okay, regardless of, I need to start, take my [00:00:50] future into my own hands. I need to believe in myself. If I fail, I fail." I have a voice, and I can use that voice, and I really wanna rewrite what it looks like to be a [00:01:00] post-athlete career. Like, I wanna rewrite that script. This is like a tarot reading-
but with hard business questions. At the end of the conversation, I said to Mark, "Hey, [00:01:10] why don't you just mail me an offer in a red envelope?" Like, making a joke, like nobody does mail anymore. Who does mail? What is the most important question you still don't know the [00:01:20] answer to? So I'm curious, have you ever had a moment where you've looked at your own life and thought, "I'm the problem I'm trying to solve"? The best [00:01:30] founders, or some of the best founders, are building when they understand the problem. As long as you're collecting skills, you can kinda do whatever you want, as long as you're collecting skills along the way. Right now, you go to the doctor, and they're like, [00:01:40] "Oh, I'm so sorry. You're, like, overweight.
You're hypertensive." Where's the Nike, like, "Just do it," like, "I believe in you" of healthcare, where it's like my mom, it's like, "You're overweight, and you're [00:01:50] hypertensive- ... but you can fix it."
